Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. left Thursday’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays because of an injury to his left ankle.
Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters after the game that X-rays were negative and Acuna will be re-evaluated Friday.
Acuna, who leads the majors in home runs, suffered the injury in the seventh inning while running to first base on a grounder. He landed awkwardly on his left foot after passing the first-base bag and hopped down the right-field line before falling to the ground in pain.
After being checked by a trainer on the field, Acuna eventually was able to limp back to the dugout. He was initially called safe before a review overturned the call.
Acuna was the second Braves outfielder to leave the game after Cristian Pache exited after the second inning with right hamstring tightness.
Snitker said Pache will be placed on the injured list and outfielder Ender Inciarte will be activated in a corresponding move before Friday’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Acuna, 23, led off the bottom of the first inning with his major league-leading 12th homer of the season. The former All-Star and NL Rookie of the Year also leads the Braves in batting average (.302), RBIs (24) and stolen bases (6).
