Atlanta Hawks guard Rajon Rondo will miss Wednesday’s season opener against the Chicago Bulls because of the NBA’s coronavirus-related protocols.
Rondo is listed as out because of “health and safety protocols” on the NBA’s official injury report.
The Hawks have not announced a reason for Rondo’s absence, but The Athletic reported Tuesday that the four-time All-Star attended a funeral this past weekend and cannot play until he clears the league’s COVID-19 protocols.
Rondo, 34, joined the Hawks last month on a two-year, $15 million deal after spending the past two seasons with the reigning NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. It is unclear when the 15-year veteran will be available to make his Hawks debut.
Atlanta also will be without guard Kris Dunn (knee), swingman Tony Snell (foot) and rookie big man Onyeka Okongwu (foot) for Wednesday’s game in Chicago. Center Clint Capela (Achilles) is listed as doubtful.
