Raiders QB Carr leaves game with groin injury

NFL

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr suffered a groin injury on a scramble late in the first quarter Thursday night and left the game as he limped to the locker room with team trainers.

His status to return is questionable.

Marcus Mariota, who is making $7.5 million as Carr’s backup, entered the game at quarterback on the Raiders’ next possession. Mariota had not played in a game for the Raiders yet as this was only his third time being active for a game.

Carr, on third-and-goal from the Los Angeles Chargers’ 2-yard line, was running toward the right pylon when he pulled up and grabbed at his left groin while going out of bounds and tossing the football away in frustration.

Before leaving, Carr was 3-5 passing for 53 yards.
