Blue-chip lightweight prospect Gabriel Flores Jr. continued his development with a one-sided unanimous decision victory over Josec Ruiz on Thursday at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
Flores (18-0, 6 KOs) started quickly, scoring a second-round knockdown of Ruiz (21-3-3, 14 KOs), and then outboxed Ruiz the rest of the way. All three judges had Flores winning by scores of 100-89.
It was a strong effort from Flores, a 20-year-old who recently relocated to Las Vegas from his hometown of Stockton, California.
After the fight, Flores revealed that he had suffered a lower back injury during a training session.
