A highly ranked featherweight bout between Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige will headline UFC Fight Night on July 15 at Fight Island, multiple sources told ESPN.
Both sides have agreed to the 145-pound main event, per sources. The UFC Fight Night event will take place at the UFC’s Fight Island, at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Kattar (21-4) will look to add to his featherweight title shot resume. The Massachusetts native is 5-2 in the UFC, with wins over Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, Shane Burgos and Andre Fili. His two losses have come at the hands of Renato Moicano and Zabit Magomedsharipov.
The 32-year-old Kattar is coming off a highlight-reel TKO over Stephens at UFC 249 in May. He is the No. 8-ranked featherweight in the world, according to ESPN.
Ige (14-2) is also well on his way to a UFC title shot, having won six in a row. Ige earned a UFC contract after recording a submission win on the Dana White Contender Series in 2017, and has gone on to win six of his first seven bouts in the UFC. This will mark his first main event opportunity.
The UFC is set to host events on July 11, July 15, July 18 and July 25 on the company’s ‘Fight Island’ in the Middle East.
