Gallagher Premiership Rugby clubs will be unable to resume training for at least another two weeks, according to the Professional Game Board Chair Chris Booy.
The league was originally scheduled to restart on April 24 but it has since been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Coronavirus: Postponements and cancellations in sport
“A meeting of the Professional Game Board was held today which incorporates representatives of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) Premiership Rugby, Rugby Players Association (RPA) and Championship Clubs,” Booy said in a statement on Thursday.
“The group agreed that although a huge amount of work is being undertaken to enable a safe return to training for Premiership clubs, more time was needed to ensure that players, staff and officials can return to a safe training environment, and that is not expected to be in place for a minimum of two weeks.
“Safety and welfare remains of paramount importance to all of us in the rugby community, and we look forward to the season resuming when it is safe to do so.
“Further updates on progress will be made in due course.”
Exeter Chiefs are top of the league after 13 matches, five points ahead of second-placed Sale Sharks.
In March, England’s Rugby Football Union (RFU) cancelled this season’s Championship and cup competitions, which saw the Newcastle Falcons promoted to the top-flight.
Scottish Rugby and the Welsh Rugby Union also announced their domestic seasons would not restart, while French Top 14 rugby league organisers (LNR) abandoned their campaign.
World Rugby also postponed all July Test matches until further notice due to the global outbreak, which means England and Wales miss out on trips to Japan and New Zealand respectively.
