Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville will be the venue to host the much anticipated Jeff Horn vs. Tim Tszyu super welterweight fight on Wednesday, April 22nd, sources have told ESPN.

The North Queensland location has beaten out Sydney’s Bankwest Stadium, Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne and Perth’s RAC Arena in what was a highly competitive race to secure Australia’s greatest fight of 2020.

The 25,000 capacity venue in south Townsville is the new home of NRL’s North Queensland Cowboys and underwent construction in 2015 as part of Australia’s bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Horn, a former world welterweight titleholder, will take a 60-40 split of the purse. The bout will be over 10 rounds.

Both Horn (20-2-1) and Tszyu (15-0-0) are coming off December wins. Horn was victorious in his rematch against Michael Zerafa in Brisbane, while Tszyu earned a fourth-round stoppage win over Jack Brubaker in his last outing.

With a no rematch clause added to the contracts, the winner is expected to earn a world title fight later in the year.
